Goin' 90 miles a minute, on a train to nowhere... Somehow things got rollin' pretty fast during the holidays, and has yet to slow down... work, workin' outta town, more work... the weather sucks... I've managed to take the dirty little whore for a ride or two, but the joy of flirtin' with frost bite only lasts' so long... I have managed to get the CB into the capable hands of Brett, the mastermind behind Whitestone Innovations... of course I won't be around to witness him work his magic... Unlike myself, everybody else is doin' what they can on whatever projects they've had for the winter... Jwhite dude is still poking and prodding some ole truck, I heard Double D picked up a Shovel motor and 4 speed, I haven't seen Nicks mysterious XS, there's no tellin' what Gomer and T-Ravis have been into, same goes for Trey, Brandon is finally turnin' his Kawi into something, Brock is about done with his pile... maybe, and last I heard, Wes was gonna build a Shovel... again. RR is a only a few months away, and everyone will drag their heaps outta the garages and sheds... we'll all stand around and point and laugh and criticize... drink a little drink, smoke a little smoke... and get gone.

John doesn't have to look far for inspiration when creating his rolling work of art chops... being that he is surrounded by, wrenchin' on, and painting the coolest bikes on the planet at Wheels Through Time. Although I'm sure John enjoys the exposure, he doesn't build bikes to end up in magazines, he builds his bikes to be ridden... and this bike has seen it's share of dirt, rain, and though I only witnessed it once, even donuts in the mud! I do wonder how long the "Undead Panhead" will last in it's current state... the last time John's bike made it in a magazine, he began tearing it apart less than a month later...

I like Sportsters... I love my Sportster... I wouldn't trade it for anything. I love my Sportster for everything it is, and love it for everything it's not... like, for instance, a sportbike. I like sportbikes, too. I've owned a whole lot more of them than anything made in WI. The XR is a "neat" bike.. but if I were to put on full leathers again, with a hankerin' ta ride an air cooled V-Twin through the twisties... it'd be blood red, and made in Italy.

The Geeks may be a little off center (which way off depends on your perspective), but ole' fashioned good folks none the less. I'm not "on the inside", but to me it appears that The Boss is this dude who goes by the name White, it seems the VP is Daily (a.k.a. "GEEKDUBLD"), Travis looks to be "The Enforcer" of the crew, with Gomer ("will g", I think) as the court jester... then there's Markee (a very mysterious cat with a killer pony tail), Winslow (who apparently has never ridden a bike WITHOUT a foot clutch), and Nick Loco, who is apparently loco. These cats have allowed me to hang out once or twice, resulting in stories sure to be passed down to the grand kids about ridin', wrenchin', and getting a pet Iguana stoned... really....

To his credit, Brett did occasionally lend a hand.. while the rest of us were content to do little more than drink and point. Chad's dad is in "the biz", and Chad has grown up around cool cars and hotrods, the dudes' been behind the wheel of more cool shit than I ever will... the style of his builds have changed quite a bit since one of his first customs made it in a magazine that I wont' mention here. 95% of the work on his stuff is done by him, although he did enlist the help of the White dude to do Frank and his bride on his rat rod...

So, it seems my initial decision to shut this fucker down was ill conceived and premature.... I could blame part of it on the Corona and the half jar of shine I got from DS Tim... although it put me in another dimension that had me in rare form, I believe it just brought to the surface a bucket of shit that's going through my head at the moment... and the initial response was to start trimming the fat, cutting strings, burning bridges, and digging my foxhole a little deeper... overhead cover, clear fields of fire, grenade sumps..... So, after pretending that this was just one more thing behind me, I had what alcholohics commonly refer to as a moment of clarity... The chalenge of a strong defense is that it's tactically static, and retaining the agility to move forward is often impossible... I had let the challenges ahead of me, foremost becomming a civilian, amoung other things, put me on the defense... yeh, well, it took 42 years... I finally had a moment of weakness... only proves I'm human... fuck off and fuck that, I'm over it. I'm gonna keep doing what I've been doing... using this for it's intended purpose... as an outlet and expression of that which interest or entertains me... or in simple terms, something to do when I can't fuck with my bike or annoy others while fucking with their bikes....

... was a pain in the ass. The center section of the axle was pretty rough... had to take some 220 grit followed by scotch brite and clean it up a bit to get this shit to come past it. Was initially thinkin' I just need to replace the whole damn axle, but the areas where the bearings seat are good to go, and the pitting on the center is superficial. Found a joint ta get new "made in Japan" bearings, seals, and spacers.. even the spacers to take the place of the speedo drive... gonna set me back about 40 bucks... same joint has a new front caliper (real reason for no front break, the one I got is beyond hope and is currently my daughters paper weight), but it's almost 300 bucks. So I'm gonna stay cool and run it nekkid.

... and took the old hardtail out for a spin tonight. Sad really, I'd forgotten how much fun this shit is... headed out the back of the neighborhood, out through the unfinished part of the hood... paved roads, fire hydrants, power lines... but no houses, one more indicator of the economy... finally hit the dirt... a cloudy, dark night. The sounds of frogs, crickets, knobby rubber against against earth, and my own heavy breathing... as I fell into an old familiar rhythm, I thought back to the days when I actually raced these two wheeled human powered machines... a long time ago... back when "brewdude" was known more for his BREW bicycle frames than his custom motorcycles... when Tinker would actually be at the local race, Ned was a living legend, and I was infatuated with Missy...
